Jean Embroidery – Part I

I’ve always loved the look of embroidery on jeans. Denim provides a great canvas without being completely blank and causing white page paralysis. Embroidery is one of my favorite crafts, and something I haven’t done for quite a while because my projects (like my Gleeman Cloak) didn’t require it. So I decided to break out my embroidery floss and get to work.

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw both in-progress and completed pictures of my leaf-embroidered jeans. I started with outlining the leaves in black, then filling in with green. But as I approached the middle point of the section, I decided I wanted a bit of variation in my look. So I slowly added strands of purple to achieve an ombre affect.

The choice panned out well! These jean shorts were a pair I had been getting a little tired of, but with an update to the back as well as folding up the cuffs, it’s like a new pair!

I have more denim embroidery projects in the works which will feature in future blog posts. Here’s a bit of a sneak peek of what’s coming up next…
